I love cats. My mom loved cats and always had one or two of them around. She never bought a cat.. ever. She always adopted or more accurately they, as in the cats, adopted her… Wilbur, Sam, Cupcake, Gonzo, Boomer… so many cats over the years. But this card isn’t about cats but is instead made by a cat! Yup, a COPY cat!

Sharon Johnson (notimetostamp) came up with this wonderful idea to use the small SU! oval punch as a saucer for the cups. Here is her card that I just love. This card is also for the OCCC (Our Creative Corner Challenge) which is to make a card using at least one brad and one button as embellishments. I used Flourishes new “Coffee With Friends” set for the cups and their “Damask” background stamp. The Damask is stamped on Basic Grey’s “Two Scoops” designer paper. The ribbon is May Arts Scalloped Brown Satin.

Do you think these cups could pass as teacups? I have a whole collection of teacups that used to belong to my mom. She collected them (along with just about anything else you can think of! lol) One of her wishes was to someday take the ferry from Seattle to Victoria and have High Tea at the Empress Hotel. Oh and while on the trip she also wanted to visit the beautiful Butchart Gardens. Well fortunately before she passed away we were able to make that trip!

This is the view of the Empress as the ferry comes in to dock in Victoria, BC. (Photo courtesy of the Stewart Family, 2003)

Here we are at the Butchart Gardens just outside of Victoria. That’s our little group in the lower left hand corner of the photo.  (Picture was taken by my sister, Merle.)

The gardens were incredibly beautiful just like my mom. I’m so glad that she was able to get her wish and we made this trip. I miss her.

  11. I was blown away upon the sight of this gorgeous card, and then the little story that goes with it touched my heart and soul! I’m so glad you Mom fulfilled her dream to visit those beautiful gardens! Funny how making a card can touch upon a treasured memory.
Anyway, your card is fabulous! I adore the saucers and that gorgeous ribbon, but the thing that really caught my eye was that tiny heart-shaped button! The vivid colors, embossing and stamping make this card nothing short of spectacular! LOVE it!! TFS!

  12. Gorgeous! Love the colors and layout. And those saucers….simply perfect!

  13. Great card and I love Sharon’s idea! Love the cat story too — we are living examples of a cat choosing you! Our neighbour’s cat (next door neighbours at that!!) decided to move in with us! Was a bit awkward for a while, but we have all adjusted – especially the cat!

As for your trip to Victoria – I must brag and say, I just love living in BC!! Victoria is lovely as are the gardens and all the rest you can see there. Next time you’re up this way, let me know — I’m just a ferry ride away 🙂

  14. My simpathy to you and your family on the loss of your Mom. The amount of time that passes, gives to small a relief on the emptiness we feel in our heart. May your memories of your Mother comfort you and the pictures of time spent together bring a sense of her presence to you.

  15. Fabulous card Susan! Love the colours and that little button is so cute!

Beautiful photos too…I’ve never been to the Empress Hotel, but the Buchart Gardens look just like I remember them from when I was there (over 30 years ago!). Brings back some good memories for me. I’m glad that you were able to help your mom’s dream come true. 😉 tfs

  21. I went here with my Mother as well. She had always planned to go when my Father retired. One day she said lets go now. I went with them and we had a wonderful time. She died a couple of years later. Never put off what you can do today, you don’t know if there will be a tomorrow.
