This week’s Clean & Simple Challenge at Splitcoaststampers is to make a Christmas or Winter themed card or project. I played along.
This is a flat aka “mail friendly” design although Inchies were used for a touch of dimension. And the trees have a bit of Stickles on them for a little sparkle.

Do you have finished cards that you’ve never given to anyone because there was something about them that you didn’t like, but you couldn’t figure out what it was or how to fix it? I have boxes full of just such cards. One of my goals is to decrease the number of cards in those boxes. Today I’ve managed to decrease that number by three.
With this first card, no matter what image I put on it, it would get lost with all the background stamping. I even added a red ribbon accent to try and get the thing to “pop”. Here is how it has been sitting in my craft room for years! I can tell because it was clear back in the days when I stamped my own backgrounds instead of using patterned papers (and generally only made card fronts that were added to card bases when needed.)
Aha! The card was popping with the ribbon, but that was doing nothing to help to pop the image. Voila! Add some red behind the image as well.

Here is another oldie-goldie-background stamped card (July 2006) that was about as blah as they come. The red didn’t do much to pop anything this time.
My solution was to add another color entirely. This is such an odd color scheme, but I think it worked to bring some life to this golden coma.
This final card (front) (August 2006) was actually one that I loved but wasn’t thrilled with my coloring on the sailboats. So couldn’t bring myself to give it away.
But now I have COPICS!!!!
Moral to the story? NEVER give up!! That’s three cards that are now ready to give away. Just have 300+ more to go! lol

Yeah! Two more Christmas cards ready to go.. sorta.
The look of snow in the background on both of these cards was made using Masking Fluid. This technique can be found here.
Flower Soft was used on the top card, but I have to admit that I won’t use black Flower Soft on greenery again. Next time I’ll use green for greenery! Seriously, in real life it looks like mold on those trees! LOL Not sure if this card will ever see the inside of an envelope.
So, okay, I’ve got one more ready to go anyway! hehe

With all of the die cut shapes out there now, it’s easy to end up with several layers on a card when using and accenting them. With Christmas cards, that can get expensive especially when factoring in mailing costs. Well here is a design that actually removes layers but still allows you to show off all those great shapes. Just cut the shape away!
Here are three cards that have just three layers including the card base!

This final card could easily have just two layers including the card base. However, it looks like a couple of extra stars sneaked onto this last one. It uses the stars five Nestabilities:
Less paper.. less time.. less postage. It’s a perfect combination for some Christmas card creations.

One of my son’s birthdays is coming up, so this week’s challenge at Our Creative Corner fit in perfectly with the need to make him a card.
I love this old truck image. It reminds me so much of the pickup that my DH drove in high school when we were dating… you know… back in the olden days! Had fun coloring it with Copics.
And growing up in Washington State, who didn’t have an apple tree or two in their yard! I remember the Red Delicious apples my dad grew. They were HUGE, seriously, the size of cantalopes. The weight of the apples would bend the branches so low. He would put poles under them to hold them up to keep the fruit from resting on the ground. He loved his apples and would eat them everyday. He didn’t like the peel though and could wind around and around the apple with a paring knife to make one long peel. As a little girl I delighted in watching him do this. Wonderful memories of simpler times…

This new Graphic 45 designer paper “An ABC Primer Collection” is great not only for autumn creations, but several of them are suitable.. in fact perfect.. for Christmas as well. Here is a set of Christmas cards I made using this fun, colorful and rich paper.

This second card was just for fun.
Slowly but surely that Christmas card stash is growing.

Loved this Clean & Simple color challenge at Splitcoaststampers yesterday, so I played along. I’ve been needing to get a good CAS design to mass produce some Christmas cards. Well I found this sketch over on the Clean and Simple Stamping blog and fell in love with it. Even hubby pretended to like this one more than most. It must be good! Or maybe it’s just the red. Men have such a thing for red. 
It will be fun to change the colors up and substitute different patterned papers with this sketch. That should give each card a little bit of uniqueness, and keep it more interesting for the person making the cards. (I have a hard time with mass production.)
