This card is for a couple of different challenges.  The first is the Operation Write Home’s challenge found HERE, and the second is the Stampin’ Sisters in Christ’s Challenge found HERE.

Weight and thickness matter when making cards for OWH so by making the red gingham a frame, you get the look of layers without actually having them.

Because of the dark cardstock, some white was added for writing.  A little dp brightens up the inside as well.

If you haven’t seen my Sketch Challenge for this month, check it out HERE.  There is still a week left to play and some blog candy.. a brand new 6 x 6 pad of designer paper is looking for a new home!

Happy Crafting!

Played along in this week’s sketch over at Operation Write Home.

To give the sentiment a little dimension, the paper and bar section of the typewriter was stamped a second time.  The sentiment was then stamped on it and cut out.  This small section of the image was then adhered over the complete image of the typewriter.

But there was a problem!  After closer examination of the sketch, I realized that I had NOT followed it correctly.

What to do?  Try again, of course!  LOL

This is such a great sketch.  Really loved it (both versions!)  hehe

If you make any cards for OWH and have their name stamp, don’t forget to stamp it on the back of each card you send.

Played in the Clean and Simple Challenge over at Splitcoaststampers.  Today’s challenge was to use a “partial image”.

I used the Nestabilities Labels 10 die as a template for sponging and finished off the edges with a faux stitch.  This helped to better define the sponged shape.

An inside sentiment with the same font worked nicely with the front sentiment even though the two were from different companies.

This particular card is going into my Operation Write Home box.  The pearls are quite small and hopefully not too bulky.

Thanks for dropping by today!  Happy Crafting!!

This month Operation Write Home has been celebrating it’s birthday.  I was inspired to begin going through some of the boxes of cards I have to see which ones might be appropriate to mail to them.

This was a start:

Before each card is sent overseas, OWH stamps their name on the back.  I requested that they send me this stamp so that I could do this step for them.

Since it was only the rubber (with no foam backing), I used some foam backing leftover from an SU! set.  It’s rubber easily peeled away from the foam leaving most of the stickiness intact on the foam.

The rubber was placed on the foam and then cut out.

The stamp was then mounted on a Jenga block.  A whole Jenga game can be purchased for just a few dollars, and these blocks work perfectly as wood mounts!

Once it was mounted the image was stamped onto some printer paper which was cutout and taped to the wood block.

Now I can make sure that all my cards are stamped with the “Operation Write Home” name before they are mailed and save the mailroom at OWH a time consuming step.

Since the soldiers do not have white ink pens to write on the darker cardstocks, another thing you can do to help OWH is to make sure that all the insides of your cards have a white or light writing area.

Maybe you have some cards just laying around?  Why not send them in to Operation Write Home!

Happy Crafting!
