The card in my last post was one of the most CAS (Clean and Simple) cards I have ever made.  Today’s card is quite a ways from there.

I had a blast with this one… playing with so many fun and sparkly things.  And I’m playing along in 8 different challenges… with just 1 card!  That is definitely a record for me.

With the card closed you can see the inside strip of designer paper where it peeks through the curved die cut front at the bottom of the card.

The pearl centers on the sparkly “snowflakes” were white, but they have been colored with a Copic marker.  Love those Copics!

As for the 8 challenges, well check them out by clicking on their badges below.

Thanks for dropping by today.

Today’s card is for the Color Throwdown Challenge #273.  I’m determined to work on Christmas cards all year this time around.  It makes such a difference come November!  And, these colors were perfect to show off some new metal snowflake stickers.

The turquoise rhinestone matches the background designer paper better in real life.  Sometimes the lighting plays with us!  lol

I don’t have anything that is officially “smoky slate.”  However, the ribbon shows several shades of gray.  Hopefully one of them is close to it.

There’s still a little time left to play along in this wintery color schemed challenge.  Speaking of winter… hope all those who are in the brutal cold regions this weekend can curl up and craft away the day!

Papers: PTI Select White; SU Basic Grey; BoBunny “Powder Mountain” Designer Paper

Inks: Memento “Tuxedo Black”

Accessories: Simon Says Stamp! “Tri Square” Die; Momenta Metal Snowflake Sticker; Rhinestone; Ribbon

I love this graceful cardinal image from the “Warmth & Wonder” set.

The arched top on the red card’s image panel was made by trimming off three sides from a panel made with a Nestabilities Labels #10 die.  (I used this particular die as it was “handy”, but I’m pretty sure just a regular oval shaped die would have worked just as well.)

The stamp was colored with SU markers, stamped and then shaded with Copics.  A teeny tiny bit of Stickles was added to the berries  on both cards.

There is an elegant deer image in this set, too.

To play along in this week’s Clean and Simple Challenge at Splitcoaststampers to “tear or distress”, one of the cards is distressed using SU’s Creamy Caramel ink.

Whether left clean or distressed, I love this embossing folder paired with the simplicity of the deer image and sentiment.

One of the cards follows the sketch for the Freshly Made Sketches #109 Challenge this week.

This is one of my favorite embossing folders from SU.  Love the look of the texture right on the image and sentiment.

To add some sparkle on the final card, Stickles was added around the deer’s neck.

Stamps: SU “Warmth & Wonder”

Papers: PTI Select White and Pure Poppy; SU Handsome Hunter; Graphic 45 “French Country” DP; My Mind’s Eye “Christmas Wish” DP

Inks: SU Handsome Hunter, Real Red, Bravo Burgundy, Summer Sun, Basic Black and Creamy Caramel; Copics:

This card was made for three different challenges:
*Cornish Heritage Farms Challenge #16 to make a Winter themed card or project,
*CAS-ual Fridays Challenge #83 to make a CAS Holiday card in less than 10 minutes and
*10-minute Craft Dash #9 which is also to make a CAS creation within 10 minutes.

After gathering my embossing folders, snowflake die, a pearl brad, some grosgrain ribbon and ink, I decided on a sentiment and set the clock.  With no coloring to do or bows to tie, this card took only 8 minutes and 57 seconds to make.  There was even time to emboss the snowflake!

Here is a second card with the same basic design, but it is rotated 90 degrees.

I didn’t have the clock going on this one, but I think it went even faster since the snowflake was not embossed.

Thanks for dropping by today.  The world is still here!!  lol  Happy Crafting!

First..the happy news: The winner of my November Sketch Challenge is… Marsha!  Congrats!  Hope you have fun with this gorgeous Basic Grey “Lucille” Designer Paper.  🙂

Now.. the sad news: One of my favorite challenge blogs, Stampin’ Sisters in Christ is taking a pause, hopefully for just a couple of months, but maybe permanently.  So I really wanted to play along in their last challenge to “Make a Christmas Card”.

Isn’t this a sweet sketch.  It is the Less Is More Week 91 Challenge.  I didn’t get a chance to play along while the challenge was open, but I loved the sketch so much that I still wanted to have some fun with it.  (And with all the layering on the sentiment, it may not have really qualified for a “less” sort of design anyway!  hehe)

Thanks for stopping by today.

Dec 052011

Although I didn’t “need” anything, a couple of days ago I found myself standing in the aisles of my local craft store.  I hadn’t planned a visit, but needed to shop at a nearby store.  Well, its pretty much impossible to just walk past it… I am quite literally drawn in!

And what did I find but this GORGEOUS piece of designer paper!!  Love the non-traditional colors!  I came right home and made 8 Christmas cards with it.

The snowflakes and sentiments are placed at different levels on each card to best show off the wonderful sparkle of that particular piece of dp.  The punched border is a Martha Stewart Edger Punch.  Not sure that this one is still available but if you haven’t visited Ellen Hutson’s store recently, she is offering almost ALL of her Martha Stewart Punches at 50% off while they last!!!

I was tempted to put rhinestones at the center of the snowflakes but added Stickles instead.  This helped keep the cards flatter for mailing.

The Christmas card stash continues to grow!

Splitcoaststamper’s Clean and Simple Challenge today was to use “Red, Black and White” on a card or project.  Since I’m still trying to get a little head start on some Christmas cards, this is what I created.

Dry embossing is one of my favorite ways to add some unique and fun interest to a card.

On this card I embossed the cardstock twice using two different embossing folders.  The orientation of the two embossed designs is reversed.  The “Snowflakes” pattern shows the “positive” or “out” embossing and the “Tall Pines” pattern shows the “negative” or “in” embossing.

This was so much fun that I wanted to try using a single embossing folder with both the “in” and the “out” embossing on a single design.  Here is what the “Tall Pines” folder looks like with an “In and Out” combination.

This is one of the embossing folders from the “Pop Culture” collection.

This is from the “Just My Type” collection.

Here is Sissix’s “Branch Tree”.

Here is another pattern from the “Pop Culture” collection.

This one may be my favorite.  It uses the “Seeing Spots” embossing folder.

Isn’t that..

And finally, here is the popular “Swiss Dots” embossing folder.

I had such a blast experimenting with some of my folders.

Dec 012010

It’s down to the wire and there are still lots of Christmas cards that need to be made.  So that means only one thing.  Keep it simple!

The puffy trees are satin cutouts from May Arts.  They make quick and fun focal points.  I will be able to easily duplicate these if needed.

A stamped sentiment on the inside, and they’re ready to go!  Now only a couple dozen more cards and I’m there!

(Tip:  Stamp sentiments before embossing.)

Thanks so much for dropping by today.

In celebration of the Winter Olympics (and because I used all of my Christmas cards this past year and will need to start NOW in order to have enough for this coming Christmas) I couldn’t resist making this snowy card.

1blog236cardwithwm.jpg

Besides a snowman image, I also used a couple of snowflake punches, a snowflake die cut and a snowflake embossing folder.  Yeah.. someone got a little carried away, but it sure was fun!  Copics were used for the little bit of coloring that was done.

And if all that wasn’t enough, I used the embossing folder to add some embossed snowflakes to the flap of the envelope.  (Since the envelope flap has to be put sideways into the embossing folder, not all embossing folder designs work well for this.. such as those with words/script.)

blog236envelopeinefwithwm.jpg

Different shapes of envelope flaps will work fine, too.

blog236envelopeswithefwithwm.jpg

You can create either a positive or negative embossing. On the negative embossed envelope below, I ran a blue ink pad across the flap to create another look.

It’s such a quick and easy way to add a little something extra to your card giving.  And your mail carrier can enjoy it, too!
